1. Opt for Loose Apparel: Post-tan, it’s crucial to choose garments that are loose and comfortable. Ideal choices include a flowy, dark maxi dress and open-toed footwear. Steer clear of tight clothing such as skinny jeans, leggings, and constricting shoes, to prevent your tan from smudging or appearing patchy.
2. Minimal Undergarments: Right after your spray tan, it’s advisable to skip wearing bras and underwear if possible. If you prefer to wear undergarments, opt for a dark, loose pair, as the tanning solution might stain certain fabrics, though it usually washes out. For bras, a strapless or bandeau style is recommended.
3. Keep Dry: For optimal tan development, avoid moisture for the first 4-5 hours. This includes skipping showers, workouts, using lotions, and even liquid foundations. A dry environment ensures better adherence of the tan to your skin.
4. Delayed Showering: It’s best to wait at least 10-12 hours, before taking your first post-tan shower. Use gentle, oil-free cleansing products and avoid scrubbing. Use your hands for a soft rinse, and remember to pat your skin dry gently to avoid disturbing the tan.
5. Post-Shower Hydration: After showering, use an oil-free lotion to keep your skin hydrated. Well-moisturized skin retains a tan longer. Ensure that any moisturizing is done at least 6 hours post-tan to maintain the tan’s quality.
6. Makeup Considerations: Many are curious about applying makeup after a spray tan. It’s advisable to wait 6 to 8 hours before applying makeup or moisturizers, as these can affect the tan’s color and evenness. These tips are designed to help you maintain your spray tan effectively in the first 24 hours and beyond, incorporating regular skincare routines to prolong your radiant glow between appointments.
